3 Meal Planning Tips That Could Slash Your Budget in Half!

February 4, 2018

Did you know that meal planning can actually enable you to eat healthy on a consistent basis while actually slashing your grocery budget and time in the kitchen by up to half?

Here's 3 simple meal planning tips that are sure to set you up to win:

Tip 1 - Always plan before you buy

Meal planning is a skillset and practice that has almost been completely forgotten in today's fast paced world. The good news is that it's a simple skillset to learn and it's actually one of the single most important steps you can take for living a healthier lifestyle.

Now I'm not talking about simply making a grocery list before you head off to the grocery store. I'm talking about actually thinking through and planning your meals a week to a month in advance. This may seem like a daunting task but the process can actually be incredibly simple. In Tip 3 below I will walk you through an incredibly simple meal planning process that you can get started with right away!

Tip 2 - Buy bulk foods that sync with your meal plan

Buying foods in bulk can be a great way to save money. Unfortunately most people make the mistake of buying food ingredients in bulk before having a solid plan in place.

Everyone reading this post can probably relate to what it's like to have your freezer and cupboards full to the brim, yet when it comes time to make dinner you find yourself at a loss to actually pull off a full meal. Or how many of you end up going through your freezer each year just to through away a bunch of stuff you didn't even know you had.

Instead the solution is to put together a meal plan first and remain disciplined to only buy the ingredients that fit your plan.

Tip 3 - Make your meals ahead in bulk

Making a bunch of meals all at once not only saves you an incredible amount of time in the kitchen but it also simplifies your meal planning process. Most people are overwhelmed with the idea of planning out meals in advance but the concept is really quite simple.

A great place to start is by brainstorming just 2-3 staple meals that your family enjoys. Pick just one meal and decide how many of that particular meal you want to make in advance. Next write down a grocery list for the ingredients you will need. This is now the perfect time to save money by buying those ingredients in bulk.

Once you have all your ingredients, set aside a few hours to prepare 20-30 meals during a single session in your kitchen. At the end of this process you will find that you saved yourself a lot of money! you will have far less ingredient waste and the time you spend in the kitchen will be dramatically reduced.

Once you've bulk prepared your first set of meals, repeat this process for additional meals. A meal plan doesn't have to be anymore complicated than that!

Be sure to start with a simple recipe for your first meal prep session. This will give you the confidence and motivation to repeat this process for additional meals.

Imagine if the next time you opened your freezer you had a month's worth of healthy home prepared meals that you can heat-up at a moments notice. It could change your life and your health!

Don't delay... Give it a try this week!

Next week I plan to share the recipe and meal prep process that my wife and I used to make 20 homemade pizzas in less than 60 minutes for under $1 per serving!

Your turn!

I'd love to hear about your meal plan ideas and tips in the comments below!
