Sausage Gravy with Gluten Free Biscuits
Homemade sausage gravy is one of the easiest things to make, once you see just how easy it is you will never buy a packaged gravy mix again!
Here is a family favorite recipe for a gluten free version of sausage gravy and biscuits. The gravy is rich and flavorful and the biscuits are light and fluffy.
For the gravy
1 lb. Breakfast Sausage (pasture raised, nitrite free)
2 TBS organic butter
2 TBS potato starch
2 cups whole milk
salt and pepper to taste
In a medium sauce pot, cook sausage until browned. Add the butter and potato starch to the sausage, stir and cook for about 1 minute. Whisk in the milk and salt and pepper. Cook over medium heat until gravy begins to thicken, about 2 minutes.
For the biscuits
3/4 cup rice flour
1/2 cup sorghum flour
1/2 cup tapioca starch
1 tsp cream of tartar
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 TBS unrefined sugar (optional)
1/4 cup organic butter, softened
1 large free-range egg
3/4 cup whole milk
In small mixing bowl, combine dry ingredients. Beat together the butter, egg and milk with electric mixer. Add dry ingredients and beat on high for 30-60 seconds.
Drop by large spoonfuls onto a parchment lined baking sheet.
Bake at 400° for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown. Makes 1 dozen biscuits.
