Springtime Photos 2018
Hey, It's Blaine with Seven Sons!
There’s no place more wonderful than a farm in springtime.
The new spring air is so sweet and everywhere you look, little miracles are happening.
Buds swell into blossoms, eggs are hatching and young are born. Everything’s off to a fresh start and life is good, busy and brand-new!
This is the time of year when our cows, pigs, and chickens begin their continuous migration across our lush green pastures.
My brothers actually snapped a few photos to share with you today :)
Pigs out to pasture
Say Hello to Blake... he does an awesome job heading up our pastured pig operation at Seven Sons. Just last week Blake turned 190 hogs out to graze some fresh annual ryegrass pastures.
Pigs are naturally curious critters and tend to be pretty photogenic. Notice the Red Duroc taking the opportunity to pose for the photo :)

Here's a quick video Blake took last fall of hogs grazing summer annuals:
Cattle out to pasture
Blake also heads up our grassfed beef operation at Seven Sons. Below is our herd of exactly 200 calves that will be grazing all summer long. Blake ensures that these calves always have nutritious grass available to them by rotating them to fresh pastures on a daily basis.
Hens out to pasture
Pictured below is a group of 1,000 hens foraging in one of our perennial pastures. In total, we have over 6,000 hens that graze our pastures throughout the year. Believe it or not our hard-working farm team hand-collects over 35,000 individual eggs on a weekly basis!
During the growing season, our hens (along with their mobile shelters) are moved to fresh pasture each day. On average each flock ranges across a whopping 2 MILLION square feet of fresh pasture each season!
Here's a quick video I shot last year showing exactly how these hens live each day out on pasture:
