As most of you know a powerful earthquake struck Nepal Saturday, killing over 1,000 people across a swath of four countries as the violently shaking earth collapsed houses, leveled centuries-old temples and triggered avalanches on Mt. Everest. It was the worst tremor to hit the poor South Asian nation of Nepal in over 80 years.
For the past several years Seven Sons has had an ongoing connection with a small orphan home located in the city of Kathmandu Nepal right where this earthquake hit. The children and staff all survived but some of their family members were killed. I was recently in Kathmandu just a few months ago and had the opportunity to get to know these very children that are now displaced from the damaged orphan home. I was informed yesterday that the children had no choice but to sleep outside in the dark city. This will continue to be the fate of many people in this area of Nepal until recovery efforts are made.
This is a devastating blow to a country with the same poverty level as Haiti. Please keep our Nepal friends in your prayers as they are surely overwhelmed by the job ahead.
We plan to keep you informed about the orphan home relief efforts and how we can come together and help. To learn more about our past involvement in Nepal please visit our Missions Outreach page.
